The Orange Line project, as an early harvest project of CPEC, was jointly built by China Railway Group Corporation and China North Industries Corporation. It was inaugurated on October 25, 2020 in Lahore, making it Pakistan’s first mass rapid urban transit train service.

Recently, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, along with her father and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, chaired an important meeting focused on enhancing transport infrastructure in the province. The meeting discussed plans for the implementation of the underground train project in Lahore and the metro bus project in three cities of Punjab. During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for meticulous planning for the underground train project in Lahore and sought a detailed plan in this regard.
